I teach Spanish and history at a small, rural school district. Our school is so far away from major cities that often it seems our students are completely cut off from the outside world. They are lacking in experience and exposure. Field trips are very costly due to the transportation expense of buses, plus admission fees. My goal is to be able to raise money for my students so that they have exposure to life outside of their rural, small farm community and all students, not just those with higher incomes, can attend. I want them to be aware of the world around them and embrace diversity. My plan is to take my learners to museums, restaurants and Latin dance shows to broaden their understanding and teach an appreciation of cultural diversity.
