My students were specifically selected for this ELA after school program based on their below average assessment scores. Most of my kids receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch so I find it important for them to have snacks in order to concentrate and have energy to participate.
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning by engaging them with fun activities and it will encourage them to want to succeed in this program. Many of the students are discouraged to come to school, especially an after school program because they are beginning to see that they are struggling in the classroom and compare themselves to the other students. I want my kids in this program to feel like they have accomplished their goal and succeeded in ELA.
The journals will be used to encourage my students to complete their writing work. Right now, we are using loose leaf paper stapled together, and I feel that the journals will be much more intriguing! I requested snacks for my students so that their brains are ready to be put to work! Studies show, students school work drastically decreases without proper nutrition. The laminating sheets are for the students to laminate their favorite piece of work at the end of this after school session. I have already explained to them that they need to work extra hard so that they have something to laminate and brag about!
Any donations would be greatly appreciated by my kids and myself!
