My students value experiences that are relevant, enjoyable, and engaging but face many social, emotional, and economic challenges. Many of them come into my classroom at the beginning of the year lacking confidence in their own thinking abilities, yet hold a desire to better themselves through enjoyable and relevant experiences.
They are a diverse group of students. Many have recently come to the United States, fleeing intolerance or other hardships in their home country, and are now learning to live in a diverse community. Others come from low-income households, foster homes, and even homelessness. They are all at different academic levels - some with little or no formal education prior to this school year and others who started in Preschool.
Something they all have in common is that they need the right love and guidance to help them push themselves to realize and actualize their potentials and their dreams.
