My school is very lucky to have two desktop computers in our classroom, but with over 20+ second graders, it makes it very difficult to give every student adequate time on them, and even harder to coordinate projects. By simply adding two Chromebooks, it allows for a rotation of 4 students at a time, allowing for greater access to technology. I have an excellent group of 2nd grade students who work hard every day and are eager to learn. You would be surprised at what a 2nd grader can do on the computer when given the opportunity and modeling. My school is located in a rural community in Iowa, with several students receiving free or reduced lunches. Several of my students do not have access to a computer at home. Students at our school are not taught computers as part of the Media Center/Library curriculum, which is something that other schools may have the option of completing. It is up to the classroom teacher to provide the opportunities, but difficult with only two computers.
