Studies show that students are reading independently for pleasure less than they were a decade ago. It is my goal to reverse this statistic within my classroom. I want kids to read because they want to and because they are excited to spend time with the characters and narratives they have chosen.
For the past few years, I have worked to build an engaging classroom library that reflects the interests of my students. On average, students in my classes read 14 books per school year above the required novels. We have built such momentum as readers, but I need a classroom library that can keep up with them. By supporting this project, and by putting books in the hands of students, you will help increase their reading comprehension and stamina, as well as their vocabulary and test scores. Reading for a few minutes a day can make a measurable difference in the achievements of these students!
