Kindergarten is the foundational block for a student's academic career and building a love for reading and math is key to helping them become successful students and nurture their love of learning! In my classroom, we use many math manipulatives to help students understand abstract concepts like addition and subtraction. My students also use materials in reading to help them learn sight words in fun ways, cultivate their phonemic awareness, and develop their fine motor skills for writing. Having real materials to use helps students to see these concepts in action, build muscles for writing, and develop a more thorough understanding of these essential foundational topics.
The math manipulatives and literacy supplies will provide my kindergarten students with the opportunity to have a hands-on learning experience with math and literacy concepts and build on their foundational skills while learning remotely and at school. Learning through play is a great way for young students to engage in content and build confidence while learning difficult concepts or skills. Having their own set of materials to use at home and at school will help my students to engage in our content safely. They will also benefit from using materials that are frequently pictured and referenced in their textbooks. I am very excited to help foster a concrete understanding of kindergarten math and literacy concepts through the use of these materials and I know it will help my students further their love for math and reading.
