I want to expose kids to fun science at a time in their development when they are interested in experimenting. This could be done in a small group of 2-4 students analyzing and discussing what they see through the microscope. It can also be used as an incentive for students to earn a chance to have individual time with the microscope. Things get real when the safety goggles go on, and I can't wait to see my students turn into scientists when they put their goggles on. Additionally, early exposure to proper use of this equipment will help students in future science classes. I'm well aware of how germs might be a concern, but I will diligently make sure students are using clean and safe lab equipment.
