I work at the Alternative Program for our school district, where students come to us when they have had difficulty being successful in their home school due to behavioral concerns or challenges. Many of these students struggle with social and emotional skills, having learning difficulties, and come from situations that require some extra TLC.
These students require individualized attention, small groups, and extra encouragement as they work towards returning to their home schools.
I try to work on teaching empathy, understanding, patience, and how to work through challenges as they arise.
Providing a safe, loving, and comfortable environment is so important to promote this kind of learning.
