I have the most diverse group of students. We teach as a grade level (though not truly departmentalized, as we all teach everything to all students).
Some of my students come from truly challenging backgrounds and family dynamics. For some, being at school is their solace and we are their safe people.
For others, the parents are available to support, but almost none have the financial abilities to provide outside of the basic needs for students. It's a rich environment, because families and students believe in teachers and our goal to reach all students, socially, emotionally and educationally.
It's an honor to be with them 30+ hours of each week (and planning an additional 20+ hours per week!)
