Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop once said that books are windows, mirrors, and sliding doors for us all. This is especially true for our children. Children learn from what they hear, see, and read. It is especially important for me to help facilitate a library that is rich in content, by providing books that represent the diversity of our world. I want my students to be able to read a book that is inclusive of people from all over the world. These books will be used to start meaningful conversations in my classroom about acceptance regardless of race.
With these books, my students will be able to learn about new and shared experiences while building love, empathy, and community. They will gain insight from having books where they can look into the lives of others and learn from their shared experiences. Lastly, they will continue to build on their love of reading and literacy skills.
