In my classroom, my students are superheroes, and not just because they are all amazing! Each one of them comes from a different background with a unique perspective on life. They have their own strengths and their own challenges, but the one thing they do have in common is their love of reading. If they could have it their way, we would never put down our books; instead, we would read by ourselves, read to our friends, read in small groups, and listen to books on our iPods.
In our school, I am able to use my students love of reading to help them succeed. Because of how literate my students are, I am able to put together small groups where we are reading books on the students level while students work on independent reading and writing and, guess what, my students love this! Everyday I hear, "Mrs. C, when are we going to be in groups?" or "Mrs. C, when can I read part of my new book?"
