Who knew a carpet could be a key element to learning, growth, discussion and building community?! Indeed that 9x12 space can be a sacred space. A place where real conversations can happen. A spot for kids to go deeper with their thinking and wonderings. Time on the carpet can offer students a place to learn the value of active listening to truly understand another. A place to practice student structured talk in a safe environment where making mistakes is ok and metacognition is celebrated. Providing adequate space that is clearly organized with set expectations can lead to deeper learning and opportunities for classroom bonding...like MAGIC.
