I teach at a rather small suburban elementary school located deep in southern California and the culture of the surrounding region influences my teaching style. Most of the students walking through the door on their first day aren't just coming to kindergarten for the first time, for most of them this is their first time in a school setting. Most of my students are between the ages of 4 and 5 and this coupled with them being new to schooling means they need a different kind of "touch".. In order to provide the best environment for my little ones the kids must feel comfortable and this type of atmosphere is possible due to the wonderful parent volunteers I am blessed with, more often than not I have 2 or 3 volunteers. These parents aren't just a blessing to the class they are also a blessing to me, they help remind me that the most important part of what I do is cultivating relationships with my students and their parents so that they will have the tools needed to succeed.
