Basically, my kids are AWESOME! I teach 3rd-5th grade special education at Columbia Explorers Academy, a Chicago Public School on the city's beautiful southwest side. The population at this school is low-income, and students often struggle to pay for their own supplies.
My kids face a variety of challenges because of their family socioeconomic status and disability. On top of all of this, this is a transitional bilingual school, meaning most students are English Language Learners. My students might face a lot of adversity, but I can assure they are resilient, tough cookies. My classroom is a safe place for them to learn academic as well as life skills to thrive.
