Implementing flexible seating in my classroom will allow my students to make their own choices in regards to their learning. Throughout the day, students are told what they need to do and how it should be done. By incorporating this in the classroom, students will feel more comfortable as well as enjoy coming to school. During the third quarter of the school year, I noticed that my learners were getting restless and had trouble staying focused. I had to switch it up! I started allowing the students to sit, lay, use a clipboard, or stand anywhere in the classroom and it worked! Having flexible seating in the room would create a more "homey" feel and allow students to be relaxed.
My students are more engaged and less distracted during independent rotations when given the option of where to work. They became more independent and responsible when given the opportunities to make their own choices. Education, students, and the world around us has changed and it will continue to change. We must change with it and I feel flexible seating will allow my learners of the twenty-first century to have the most comfortable, inviting, and age-appropriate work area.
The items that I've selected will help my learners with making good choices, teach them to be responsible, and provide them with a sense of comfort. All of the supplies I've requested are lightweight and easy to move around the classroom. The lap trays, donut balls, and wiggle seats will allow students the option of sitting anywhere in the classroom comfortably. The balance balls and stools will be great alternatives for students that may need to get wiggles out while they work. We really want Flexible Seating to take over our classroom!
