Our kindergarten classroom is a warm, slightly worn space filled with the quiet energy of young imaginations at work. The walls are covered in a blue mural depicting the color of the sky.
The children, a lively mix of boys and girls from mostly low-income families, are gathered in small groups around tables and couches. They are sweet in the way only five and six year olds can be, offering crayons to each other, gently explaining their artwork, or earnestly asking questions about how rain is made and why cats purr.
They are deeply artistic, painting stories with big, bold strokes. Every piece of art is a treasure.
There is no shortage of creativity, just a shortage of supplies. We celebrate curiosity and creativity. It's a classroom stitched together with resilience, imagination, and children discovering the world.
