This novel, Of Mice and Men, will be used for practiced reading and group discussions to help students analyze text, characters, themes, setting, plot, and tone in literature. We will build vocabulary knowledge as well as debate controversial issues that the novel presents. This novel allows students to analyze their own beliefs as well as evaluate and debate different sides of controversial issues in modern society today. Through a variety of reading exercises and discussions, students will prepare to create a project on one of the themes presented in the book and showing how the other literary elements (characters, plot, tone, and setting) are used to support that theme.
