Breakout EDU is an educational kit that creates an atmosphere of healthy competition while requiring small groups to listen to each other and collaborate. It encourages teamwork and perseverance. Each kit has a box with a several locks as well as tools to help solve puzzles, such as a UV flashlight and a red lens viewer. Students are presented with a scenario and a time limit to answer a series of questions and puzzles. I need 2 kits so that I can break up a class into small groups.
It's like an Escape Room in reverse - instead of breaking out of a room, students work together to solve puzzles to break into the box!
According to the company's website, the four C's are emphasized when playing Breakout EDU: critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and communication.
All of our students participate in after-school Enrichment courses. I plan to offer TeamBuilding with BreakoutEDU to 60 students in grades 3-6 this year, in addition to the 60 students I teach in 6th grade. Furthermore, these kits will be available for all teachers at our school to use to generate excitement, divergent thinking, and teamwork in their classrooms.
