I teach a first grade class with a lot of personality. This class has a special gift of bringing smiles and laughter to all classes they come across. My job is to take these young students and teach them the importance of loving to learn. They must learn how to read in first grade. I love to teach reading through science and social studies activities. My students come from a very diverse population. I have students from 7 countries from Pakistan to Mexico. I truly believe that all students must be treated equitably and that is why I teach at my school. I have 60% of my class who speak English as a second language. Most of my students are economically disadvantaged and receive free lunch. My schools test scores are not where they should be. As a first grade teacher, (my students do not take the state test)it is my job to inspire kids to read all types of books. It is not equitable that my students receive far less materials than other students at well to do schools.
