I teach 2nd grade in Arizona. I teach in a Title 1 school, where the average class size is 28 students to one teacher (no classroom aide). My students come from a variety of backgrounds, home environments and family dynamics. Many of the students I teach live with another family or with relatives. They are absolutely wonderful and have a love for school. Being a public school we do not get loads of funding here in Arizona. Much of what is in my classroom has been purchased solely by myself. Many of the students aren't exposed to a lot due to family income and resources.
It is my job to try and expose them to the world around them, which includes the technology that is driving our society. With the ever changing standards and requirements of the government to make sure all students are successful, my job has become more challenging. The use of technology increases engagement and academic success.
