Most of my fourth graders have spent their previous school years sitting at desks, in small chairs. Additionally, they have been expected to focus, learn new concepts, and complete their work without moving.
When I complete my work, I like to be comfortable and sometimes sit on a couch or stand. The flexible seating options will provide my students with the ability to choose how and where they learn.
Some of my students have attention deficit disorders. Allowing movement and the ability to change their type of seating may decrease the amount of distractions and increase productivity.
Flexible seating creates a classroom environment that allows for collaboration and a space for independent learning. My students will quickly understand that learning doesn't have to be a "sit and get." Rather, they will see that their choices will enhance their learning experience.
