My students live in a high poverty area. Everyone receives free breakfast & lunch. Most receive free childcare @ school (6:30 am to 6:00 pm). Many are from single family homes. It's difficult to get parents in for conferences or even to attend award ceremonies for their students during the school day because they work two maybe even three jobs just to get by. In the 5th grade we currently have about 150 students wanting to learn. They are inquisitive and are willing to take chances.
