The students I teach are the lowest of the low in a very large district. Unfortunately there are many barriers to learning that our students struggle to fight through; broken families, poverty, ESL (English is a second language for 95% of them), and the lack of a positive home support system. In addition, many live a transitory lifestyle, moving frequently.
Despite these struggles, they still come to school with bright personalities and eager smiles. Music class is a brief time in the week where they can relax from the "classroom" atmosphere and truly learn through play.
