Students today need to get their wiggles out, but teachers today need to get their teaching in! It is becoming harder and harder to keep young children focused and engaged. Whatever the reasons may be, that is just how it is "these days.鈥 Rather than trying to fight against it, I'd like to embrace what they need. It is human nature to be more engaged in something if we get to choose. I'd like to give my students a choice on where they sit to learn. I would like to purchase floor pillows, round floor table, wobble chairs and cushions, and floor seats. Students will be able to find a welcoming spot in my classroom that will help me hold them to my high expectations in learning and behavior.
Nobody wants to sit in hard, metal, uncomfortable chairs to do their learning or work. I'd like to create a positive space for my students where they want to learn and be engaged. I have picked wobble chairs and floor chairs that will be comfortable for the student, but also have them sit in a way they can be engaged and ready to learn. I already have procedures in place and cannot wait to get started!
