My students are 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Many come from very disadvantaged backgrounds. Many don't have the experiences with new places, traveling, etc. as others their age. They have grown up in a small neighborhood in Iowa and rarely leave. This makes it more difficult for them to understand what our amazing country is like and the diversity of all of our states.
