I feel that my 21st century students should have access to 21st century technology. These chromebooks would allow my students to have access to technology in the class room. We would be able to connect civics to the real world and see that what we are studying this year isn't just in the past but continues to shape our country, and their lives, today through webquests, primary and secondary source research, etc.... Furthermore, my students would be able to use the Icivics platform which would allow them to use their knowledge in interactive games which would, again, help bring this subject to life for them. Furthermore, I would be able to create engaging and interactive lessons for my students using Nearpod and Padlet.
Basically, my goal is to help make Civics more meaningful to my students. For so long social studies has been about names, dates and memorization; but that's not at all what I want mt students thinking it is. Social Studies is the story of us. It's THEIR story, and for them to really get that, I need to be able to create a classroom that allows for innovating and creative lessons.
