Being a life skills/ functional special education student can be a challenge. Too often, these students are unsuccessful in the regular education setting because of distractions and a non-individualized pace. In our life skills class, we strive to create an environment where students can practice basic skills in safety and calm. Having LeapPad learning tablets and the Get Ready for Kindergarten game would give these kids the chance to practice, without anxiety, those basic skills that they still are trying to master. Ipods are just a little too complicated, and computers can be overwhelming...especially when connected to the internet. A Leapfrog LeapPad is just right. Not too big, not too small. Having a small, durable, handheld game console that reviews basic skills will allow every student to safely make mistakes, as well as reinforce what we're already teaching in the classroom. Leapfrog makes learning fun! In a world filled with stressful contingencies, it would be a wonderful break to the regular one-on-one instruction we do our best to provide.
