I teach high school English in a high-poverty, rural area. Many of my students read below grade-level, and quite honestly, over the years I have worried that my students would never develop the love of reading. I was sure of it--but then something happened. I started ordering a few books for my classroom, and, amazingly, I had students coming in at lunch or at the end of the school day to borrow a book. Students that I was sure wouldn't be interested, hounded me about when I would buy new books. I found that they could not resist the appealing new covers which enticed them to read.
