Flexible seating empowers students who do not have access to a lot of opportunities and resources at home because it allows them to make choices about the kinds of learning spaces they work best in. We will use tables instead of desks this year to make flexible seating and seat changes easier.
The addition of chair pockets will be a great way teach students responsibility and organization. We want to set up our fifth graders for success in middle school by teaching them to manage their materials responsibly. The portable recliners will add to students' floor seating options. So much of what students learn is not a choice, and we want to at least let them have the choice when it comes to how or where they learn best.
Have you ever felt frustrated about not being able to focus on something important to you? Studies have shown that fluorescent lighting can cause migraines and cause decreased attention for students with disabilities such as autism and ADHD. The light filters and curtain lights will provide cozier lighting that is not as harsh as fluorescent lighting.
My students have shown increased engagement, enjoyment, and a sense of ownership with their work when given options. Many of my students do not have clean or safe environments at home. I would like to make this year magical for them by making my classroom a cozy, organized space that they look forward to coming to each day.
