I have the BEST first grade students. Each day they come to school excited about learning and willing to work hard. Unfortunately, like all children, they have home issues that often interfere with their ability to focus and learn. I am constantly seeking new ideas to help them learn essential life skill objectives while at the same time addressing their various needs and abilities.
At our Title 1, rural school, teachers are given a small amount of money yearly to buy supplies to aid in the their learning. These supplies include such things as copy paper, construction paper and writing paper. This small amount of money does not lend itself to purchasing "luxury" items such as hands on manipulatives.
