Students in my classroom have a choice of where to learn throughout the school day. Currently, they can choose whether or not to sit at desks or on the floor. Believe it or not, most choose the floor! We have some wobble stools, some fit boards, some stadium seats, and some carpet squares, as well as traditional desks and chairs. The biggest problem I see currently is that there is little cohesion when it comes to partner or group work. With so much choice and ownership, most students don't want to give up their "spot", even for a short time, to go work with a partner.
If I could establish an area in the room that was meant specifically for group work and that was also inviting, I think it would cut down on a lot of the frustration when it comes time to meet in a small group. Please help me create that space!
