These books will allow me to engage students through rich discussions that come from the themes set in these books. In my classroom, I am passionate about engaging ALL learners from ALL backgrounds, to achieve ANYTHING they set their minds to!
I want to be able to be prepared for their social emotional needs as they come back to school, but I also want to equip, educate, and encourage them to engage in hard and complicated issues that will and currently are impacting their lives.
Not only am I dedicated to ensuring that my students are taught academic skills necessary for their educational journey, but also to teach them to be more empathetic, accepting, and kind to everyone they meet, regardless of their differences.
The books that will be added to our book library are from authors of color as well as books on current issues because I want my students to appreciate all cultures different from their own. I desire my students of ALL colors and backgrounds to see themselves as characters and authors. Finally, I want them to have deep, thought-provoking conversations about diversity, equality, and inclusion for all.
