As a teacher at an alternative high school in an urban school district, my students come to our school because they are each at-risk of not graduating and the majority receive free or reduced-price lunch. Students arrive at our school for a variety of reason: academic struggles, behavior issues and/or absenteeism. As a result, most have lost confidence and fallen behind in their math skills. We incorporate hands-on activities in my class in order to help motivate students, reinforce math skills and ultimately allow them to experience a sense of accomplishment.
My students are creative, determined to graduate and learn best working with hands-on activities that reinforce and apply math concepts.
There is GOOD NEWS! My students enjoy technology and learn best through hands-on activities that produce tangible results they can both see and experience themselves.
