The idea for the project came after a few weeks of coaching when my students began exploring the coding programs and I noticed how highly abstract it all looks for them initially. They began to ask questions about how they would take the physical world into that C-based programming language, and vice versa.
The Smart Radio from VEX IQ along with the iPads will allow my students to see how each line of coding adds to their program as a whole, in real time.
How? By using Bluetooth technology between the Smart Radio (inserted in the robot brain) and the iPad, my students will be able to write their programs using ROBOTC for iPad and upload directly and immediately onto the robot's brain; this will allow them to test and see first-hand how every letter, every line and every command affects the desired outcome.
My goal is for them to be able to produce a completely autonomous robot capable of performing from basic to advanced tasks by incorporating STEM and coding skills through motivation and empowerment; they will also learn the advantages of group work to solve problems and overcome challenges.
