As the music teacher, over 800 students, Kindergarten through 5th grade come through my classroom every week. My campus is a dual language campus where many of the students learn Spanish or are native Spanish speakers. Each student is given the opportunity to sing, dance, and play instruments. I see them once a week for 50 minutes. Within our limited time, my students create music together and become musicians and music appreciators.
Music class to my students is a different outlet for them to express themselves. They able to be comfortable in my classroom because I have them for up to six years. They are able to be successful in a more creative way, rather than always sitting at a desk or a standardized test. They learn music through singing, moving, and playing. As well as teaching the whole school music on a weekly basis, there is also a choir and an Orff Instrument Ensemble that meets before and after school.
