I am the music teacher at Daniel Carter Beard Junior High School 189Q. We are a Title I school consisting of over 60 diverse cultures and nationalities. More than 80% of our population come from homes where a language other than English is spoken. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to explore music with such a large ELL population.
Many of my chorus students have never been able to participate in the vocal performing arts until now.
While I enjoy teaching the Ukulele to my 7th graders, I am most proud of the work my young thespians do in our musical theater program in which we have been able to do Broadway shows like "Guys and Dolls Jr.," "Once On This Island Jr.," "Aladdin Jr.," "Annie Jr.," "School of Rock Jr.," "Fame Jr." and our last production, "Singin' In The Rain Jr."
