Do you remember in the movie Field of Dreams when they said, "Build it and they will come". My title came from this thought as I watch my students as they are building and creating in centers. They are so excited and tell me, "Let's make it bigger and taller." "I wish I could go in my building like the little people!" The Toobeez Life size building pieces will give them the chance to build bigger and taller structures and become the people inside their own creations! When we go outside they love to dig and pretend to plant. They tell me all the food they will grow for me. One little girl asked, "Why can't we have pretty flowers?" The raised bed planters and soil in this project will provide that opportunity to grow any color flowers my kids want as well as vegetables that will enhance one of our books: The Ugly Vegetables. My class is growing in many ways right in front of my eyes!
Turning our outside space into a purposeful STEM learning environment can be the spark to inspire future architects and landscapers!
By donating to our project, our last unit this year "Growing" will leap out of the curriculum book and into real life experiences for each of my students. I can't wait until we see flowers blooming and students really knowing where vegetables come from instead of the grocery store. I am already envisioning the faces of the students this year and for years to come as these materials bring their learning and growing to a new level!
