These students need new technology and books to help them become better readers and to continue building their reading skills. We have outdated laptops with missing keys from the keyboard and headphones that partially work. We need new Chromebooks and headphones to use in the classroom. Students will use these Chromebooks and headphones to access reading websites such as Smarty Ants and Book Flixs to enhance their reading skills. We also have old picture books that are falling apart. With the wordless picture books, even my reluctant readers and non-readers will gain the confidence to read by simply reading the pictures.
These students are excited to learn to read and with your help, they will become avid readers. As 21st century students, they respond to technology, and they use the laptops during Daily 5 to work on listening to reading and building their foundational reading skills. While students are working on differentiated reading and math skills that is tailored to each individual student, I work independently with a small group of students to continue building their reading and math skills. Using the laptops makes learning to read feel fun while still helping them gain those foundational skills they need to learn in Kindergarten. I plan on using the Chromebooks to target reading and math skills by engaging students with fun interactive websites that will enhance their learning. The headphones will prevent distraction to other students working during Daily 5 and make the learning more personal to them.
