¡Bienvenidos! is the sign over the door as you enter our media center, my classroom. My name is Christine Alston. I am an elementary school librarian and technology teacher, aka "media coordinator," in a thriving Title I school. I say "thriving" not because we always excel academically (though we usually make growth) but because we thrive in our spirit of community. We place emphasis on the whole child, social-emotional-learning, restoration not just resolution, and Capturing Kids Hearts.
We have three pre-K classes, one of which is for students with special needs. For grades kindergarten through fifth, classes are not ability-based. Special needs, ESL, and gifted students all work together, helping each other while still receiving pull-out services as required.
My goal each year is to instill value for self and others. Our classroom behavior goals are Kindness, Respect, and (following the) Rules.
