I teach 8th grade math and science at a STEM middle school in Hawthorne, CA. As a title one school, 92% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch. These students all live in a low-income, high poverty neighborhood.
Because my students have grown up dealing with many difficulties at home, we try to create a safe environment at school where students can thrive and learn using technology as a tool whenever possible.
Student demographics at our school are diverse, with a make-up of 60% Hispanic, 30% African American, and 10% other races. There are also a number of English Language Learners who benefit from hands-on and technology based learning.
