My students would greatly benefit from over the ear headphones to use during independent work time in my class. Thirty percent of students in my classes have individualized educational plans due to learning challenges and require accommodations in order to reach their full potential in class. Headphones greatly assist these students with focus and allow them the quiet headspace they need to learn.
Additionally, headphones will allow all students in my class the opportunity to learn content using digital media, individually, at their own pace.
While some students have their own headphones to use during school, most students do not have this resource. I want to offer all students in my class the opportunity to engage with educational digital media that I use in my classroom to supplement curriculum, and do so in a way that suits their learning needs and promotes individualized instruction.
By allowing students the option to use headphones, I am hopeful that students that typically struggle to focus during group work will be able to see themselves as more successful at school. This works to grow students' confidence as learners as they finish middle school and head to high school.
