My students are energetic, eager kids, ready to learn and absorb everything that comes their way. Their lives are drastically different, and their backgrounds and experiences create significant learning gaps. They have little exposure to learning experiences outside of school, in addition to limited life experiences. I have taught at a Title I school for the past three years, and have learned something new each year from my students. Each year, approximately half of the class is unable to read on grade level when they enter 2nd grade. This is often due to language barriers or delayed exposure to school and literacy instruction. However, all of my students share the curiosity and interest that science, technology, and engineering can foster in children. In addition, many of them excel in mathematics, the universal language of numbers and problem solving. Many programs are in place at our school to support literacy instruction, my goal is to foster S.T.E.M education for my students.
