Our school, the first STEM school in DeKalb County, is a Title 1 school in a lower socio-economic neighborhood. A 鈥淪TEM鈥 school means we integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math into every subject, every day. Yet, we鈥檙e lacking in the 鈥淭鈥 of that 鈥淪TEM.鈥 While being a highly-ranked STEM school, we lack the financial support needed to give my students the exposure they need. During the school day, computer-time is the one time all my students are actively involved. My school currently has two iPad carts with about 40 iPads total. With approximately 850 students, we must reserve the iPads in advance and can only utilize them in our classroom for a short time. Having 5 iPads would give my limited-English speaking students, along with all my students, a part of the day that they can be challenged and explore what we are doing at their pace 鈥 whatever their level of understanding - without feeling frustrated due to either language barriers or need for remediation or enrichment.
