My students love reading novels in class, but it’s getting to the point where we need more options of book sets in the classroom for availability. I’m looking into expanding our reading this year with some novels that focus on conversations and issues that my students have themselves. I'm requesting copies of the novels Wonder and Out of My Mind. Both are coming-of-age stories and deal with real-life situations that my middle-schoolers deal with every day. It would be beneficial for my students to not only enjoy what they are reading but to feel a connection with they characters and story. That way, they will want to read more independently which in turn benefits their reading fluency and comprehension skills.
