These bright scholars absolutely love to learn; Spanish gives them a way to try new things. I love to reward them for trying, even if they make mistakes. I try to teach them that the most important thing is giving it a go. Making mistakes means that they're learning, and that's our biggest goal at Phalen.
Our students come from a low socioeconomic background. Sometimes, they save their snacks until later because they may not have food at home. Our students are highly motivated by these snacks and I feel it is a positive way of rewarding our students. They help develop crucial relationships that lead to lifelong support and lessons. They deserve to be fed, to feel especially safe and cared for at Phalen.
