Have you ever tried to communicate in a language that you cannot actually say a single word or only know minimal phrases in? This is exactly what it is like for my students as they try to diligently learn mathematics in a language they don't fully understand. My students will use these translators while reading word problems, writing reflections, asking questions and participating in mathematical discussions. This project would significantly help my students to build vocabulary, eliminate communication issues, and succeed in mathematics. Cell phones are banned in the classroom and therefore no translator apps are available, so with these translators they will have an alternative means to communicate.
