I'm the school counselor. My kiddos range from kindergarten to fifth grade. This large, Title I elementary school is in a low income neighborhood in Phoenix just west of Tempe, with great kids, staff and families. I get to help the kiddos with their problems: anger/self-regulation, trauma, divorce, bullying, anxiety, grief, foster care/adoption, poor social skills, etc... It's amazing that many adults I know have trouble dealing with the stressors of life, but forget kids have similar stressors or worse AND kids don't have the tools to deal with it. That's where I step in. Kids come to me for small group or individual counseling/support. Students may be referred by administration, their teacher, or parents. Luckily, many kids self-advocate and reach out to me directly through a self-referral system I created. During our time together, we talk, role-play, read books, draw, and play games. Looking for support.
