I have chosen materials that will be used specifically for STEM, which stands for Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics. These are the core values needed to engage and prepare the next generation for a world full of new technology and engineering practices. By allowing my Kindergarten students to get a hands-on approach with these core concepts, I will be giving them a strong base to continue to grow on.
These materials will engage my students in critical thinking and will encourage them to expand their imagination. My students will be presented with real world challenges to solve, such as how to build a shelter, and will use the materials to design, make, and test their solutions. Legos are not only a wonderful material for fine motor work, but they also allow students to build creatively.
Lastly, these materials will encourage teamwork and social interaction with my students. They will work together to create and problem-solve as a team.
