A carpet is a must in any elementary classroom, but more so in a Kindergarten classroom. We spend so much time on the carpet during whole group instruction learning phonics, math, during morning meeting, working on our reading skills and comprehension skills.
A carpet with patterns helps to teach the basic skills of personal space and how to sit, which allows for the students to focus during instruction. Students who can focus during instruction are able to progress and succeed. Our carpet time is where students learn story elements from a book that is read on a daily basis. They are able to interact on the carpet and complete floor activities on the carpet during center rotations.
