The materials on this list will greatly help my students in their everyday learning. For many of my students, this is their first time going to school; therefore, they are learning being introduced to many new skills. For those with prior school experience, this may be the first time they are becoming independent from heavy reliance on adult help.
The understanding of becoming organized, holding a pencil properly, handwriting, counting and using scissors can be a lot for a five to six-year-old brain to manage on a daily basis, all while trying to balance classroom expectations and self-control.
However, my students are very eager to learn these new skills. We do not have all the tools necessary to help them readily available.
